Why were the Hawaiian Islands called the Sandwich Islands?
When Captain James Cook of Great Britain arrived in the islands in 1778, he named them for his friend and supporter, John Montague, the Earl of Sandwich.  The name didn't really catch on among the residents, however.

Yes! There are several;  Hiroshima, Japan was first.

Why are there Interstate highways in Hawai`i?
Think about it!  You can't drive to any other state from the islands, but there are interstate highways.  H-1, H-2 and H-3 received federal funding under the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 because they connect military installations on the island of O`ahu.
